American Film Market 2014 Wrap-Up

November 17, 2014

After my experience at this year's American Film Market, I decided to share what I learned to help other young filmmakers and artists get a better idea of how they may be able to reach more people and make more money with their work and films. This post will be in three parts:
Part I: Hollywood is Dead
Part II: New Media Marketing
Part III: DIY Distribution

Supplemental materials: Here are the links to my original notes that I took at the conference. They are comprehensive and detailed (I'm a nerd about this stuff), but very helpful.
AFM Conference Series Day #2: Production
AFM Conference Series Day #3: Marketing
AFM Conference Series Day #4: Distribution
AFM Conversation with Adam Carolla "From Crowdfunding to Distribution"

I hope these bring you value. Please let me know what else I can help you with. Enjoy!

I'll update you when I have new knowledge/wisdom to share.

Hey thanks. I hope you get some value!

Through 2017, I will be studying to get my masters degree at Goddard College where I am focusing my lens on feature film production, new media marketing, and direct-to-fan distribution. We are suddenly at a point in evolution where you, Joe Blow, Grandma, even your cat can create a piece of media/art/content, find and connect with fans/customers online, and become financially independent doing what you love. Death to the 9-5!

So for my thesis project, I will be producing, writing, and directing a feature film, as well as building a marketing/distribution company infrastructure to market and monetize the film. What's that going to look like? A lot of fundraising, investors, hiring, management, marketing, strategizing, public relations, web content creation, audience building, sales, touring, merchandising, and making money.
