NICK CONEDERA. Filmmaker. Artist. Businessman. Lover.

I was born in sunny San Diego. Growing up, I was always around art. My dad ran his own graphic design business out of the house, just like my grandfather, who was an Italian painter, designer, photographer, engineer, and businessman.

At age 14, I met my first love: filmmaking. It was love at first sight. At age 15, I got my first professional editing gig for local musician Mike Keneally. I continued doing freelance design and video work throughout high school for clients like EF Tours and Girl Scouts of America. At age 17, I became the Vice President of the Rancho Bernardo High School Digital Media club, one of the top high school broadcast journalism programs in the country. I was lucky to be a part of a program like Digital Media where I could spend hours and hours after school editing projects and gaining access to a wide variety of professional equipment. Little did I know, Digital Media was my head start into filmmaking. By the time I graduated high school, I completed about 100 film/video projects, and won about 50 awards for my work, including three Student Emmy Awards.

At age 18, I went off to college at Chapman University in Orange, CA, to study film production and photography. I also began carrying a camera on me 24/7, a tradition that I still uphold today. At age 19, my grandfather passed away, which had a profound effect on my art and life. At at age 20, I moved to Italy for three months to discover my Italian roots, find my grandfather's childhood home, and study photography. At age 22, I graduated from Chapman University, Magna Cum Laude. By the time I graduated college, I had been on over 50 professional and student film sets.

STATEMENT

The more films I make, the more I realize that there is a fine line between art and entertainment. Filmmaking is a business. At what point do I stop making art that is meaningful to me and start making entertainment for others that can make a profit? I believe that good art is BOTH meaningful and entertaining. It is my ultimate goal to direct feature films that play in theatres around the world and that can both communicate my ideas and entertain others. I want to sell remedies of love and hope with fun packaging. If an audience member can walk out of a theatre after having just finished one of my films with a smile on his/her face and a new perspective on the world, I can die a happy man. But until then, I will work my butt off. Love is contagious... I want to infect others.
